Why our members offer emissions control services.
Because the ENGINE MANUFACTURERS recommend the constituents of our products

Please see this link for the whole document  www.enginemanufacturers.org  and go to positions statements and see the WWFC 2006. This is the world wide fuel charter, signed up to by every engine manufacturer requesting a standard of fuel to make their engines perform optimally. http://www.enginemanufacturers.org/admin/library/upload/975.zip

The following paragraphs are taken from pages 28 and 29 of the document. As you will read they RECOMMEND the use of additive packages that contain Polyetheramine (PEA) technology.  The products we supply are chosen because they contain PEA technology.

Combustion Chambers
As combustion chamber deposits (CCDs) form, they reduce the space available in the chamber for combustion while adding small crevices that increase the surface area of the chamber. This phenomenon has three undesirable effects: 1) higher compression ratios and end gas temperatures that increase the octane requirements higher than the engine was designed for, 2) increased exhaust emissions, and 3) mechanical interference between the piston top and cylinder head called ‘Carbon Knock’.

Engine Dynamometer Results
Detergent additives usually increase the level of CCDs relative to base fuel as shown in Figures 21 and 22. Detergent packages with higher ratios of mineral oil carriers tend to increase CCDs, while detergent packages with optimised high-quality synthetic carrier fluids and compounds like polyether amines (PEA) minimise CCD buildup. Additive packages should be optimised to minimise CCDs, which will allow engine designers to further improve combustion chamber designs to provide lower emissions and fuel

Effect of CCD Removal on Engine-Out Emissions
The removal of CCDs can reduce engine out HC emissions by up to 10%, CO by 4%, and NOx by 15%as shown in Figure 23 for fleet vehicles after accumulating 50,000 miles.

The summary says
"As emission standards become more stringent, it is critical for fuel quality to support improvements in emission control technology to meet these limits. Detergent additives that prevent the formation of CCDs have the benefit of helping meet environmental standards while improving vehicle performance."

This means that although manufacturers are unable to publicly state that their engines run  better without deposits and therefore YOU the  customer should use an additive package that contains PEA,  they will sign up to a charter that recommends that the fuel companies improve their fuel to make this happen.

Now, you need to remember that the fuel companies are huge businesses with profits as their determining factor.

The fuel companies do not need to produce a more expensive fuel as a standard—all their fuel meets EU standards etc otherwise it couldn’t be retailed-and why should they when customers want as low a price as possible at the pumps? Surely, they’d only be shooting themselves in the wallets if they sold LESS fuel.

So, their compromise is to produce higher RON (octane) fuels like Shell Optimax, BP Ultimate Total Excellium etc, at a higher pump price and then try to convince the public to spend more on those fuels for the benefits of increased MPG and lowered exhaust emissions

All of which is achievable at a far lower cost by putting in one of our fuel products on a regular service basis.

"V-Power : Formulated for powerful cleaning
Shell V-Power contains powerful cleaning agents, designed to prevent the formation of power-robbing deposits which can impact on responsiveness.  Shell V-Power is formulated to help remove existing deposits that other fuels may have left behind, to help new engines run smoothly for longer, and to help rejuvenate older engines. The cleaning agents are formulated to control the build-up of deposits in new cars and to assist in removing deposits in older cars. This can help restore performance.  Shell V-Power also has high, 99 RON, octane quality designed to deliver further benefits in power and responsiveness in many modern vehicles."
